Oeschibahn Takes Over Sunnbüelbahn – Kandersteg

The future of the Sunnbüel cable car is secure: After reaching the 90% service rate, Gondelbahn Kandersteg-Oeschinensee AG took over the operational management of Luftseilbahn Kandersteg-Sunnbüel (Gemmi) AG on January 1, 2026.

This marks the start of the transformation and integration process, which is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

All employees will be retained – either at Sunnbüel or at Oeschinensee. Initial infrastructure adjustments are planned for spring.

The aim is to create a stable and sustainable future for the Sunnbüel cable car and thus make an important contribution to the tourist development of Kandersteg.

The Sunnbüel cable car takes you to the impressive mountain world of Sunnbüel. From Kandersteg you are in about 6 minutes at 1936 m above sea level. The cable car holds 40 passengers.

At Sunnbüel you will find the Gemmiweg, which is well developed. It leads you on an old mule track to the Gemmi pass. You can also hike to the Arven lakes. A bench trail lets you pause at the most beautiful spots and enjoy nature on a bench. On the children's hiking trail Godi & Kari 7 dwarfs are hiding, which want to be found.

There are many reasons to love winter on Sunnbüel. These include winter hiking trails for young and old, snow-sure cross-country ski tracks at the foot of the 3000-meter peaks, the sparkling powder snow, the mystical Swiss stone pine forests, and the views into the Gasterntal valley and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch.
